所謂 MAC address 是 Medium Access Control address, 也就是網路卡的 physical address 和AirPort ID 是不同的

Airport ID 就是 MAC Address， 要看 Airport 的 MAC Address ，只要打開在 Apple Menu 裡的 Airport 程式即可見到。

想問Airport卡是否一定要用Airport Station的?
其他牌子的Station可用嗎?

大部份的 802.11b 的 base station 都應支援 Airport 卡，不過最少 LinkSys 的 802.11b base station / router / switch 好像和 iBook/Airport 不相容，我哥哥用過，結果是退貨收場。

我跟ykk、0101本來也是從Outpost訂Linksys回港，幸好及時發現它對Appletalk (Wireless to LAN Bridging)及OS X support有問題，所以已經把Order cancel了。
我在綱上也看到其他brand有類似功能，例如
3com Home wireless gateway
Buffalo Airconnect
D-link ...........
可是他們也沒有明確表示對Airport的support如何

我哥哥試過 D-Link 的 Access point / router / switch ，在 iBook 上用沒問題，不過 D-Link 不支援 Mac Address screening ( 只讓登記了 Mac address 的機器入網 ) ，「冬菇頭」便有這能力。
請問airport id同mac address不同嗎?

老二，可否勞煩你問一下老大有關D-link問題:
1. Can airport connect to d-link with encryption.
2. Can airport enabled Mac talk to the other Mac on the SOHO LAN with Appltalk (not Appletalk over IP)
3. Can Airport iBook connect to D-link in OS X?

1. 可以用 encryption.
2 & 3. 因為老二給了大哥一隻「冬菇頭」，所以 D-Link 也是退貨收場，現在不能測試。

看來「冬菇頭」是最安全的選擇了

好像encryption mode有問題,
入了passwd能夠取得ip,不過未能上網.
我試的是OS9
