Summary
The DELL 2405FPW is great alternative replacement to the wonderful Apple Cinema Display, in fact for the cost of one 2405FPW is about the same as one 20" Apple LCD display. However, out of the box setting that the factory shipped the 2405FPW is way too bright for any color work, this HOWTO is attempt to help you properly calibrate your 2405FPW.
Prerequisite
- Mac OS X computer capable of driving 1920 x 1200 screen
- DELL 2405FPW
- A hardware calibrator, i.e. EyeOne Display
- Time
In this HOWTO, I will be illustrate the process using the EyeOne Match and the EyeOne hardware.
Steps
1. Startup EyeOne Match as per normal, choose the advance and choose LCD
2. Proceed as per normal, when you come to the stage when to set the color temperature, choose RGB preset.
4. Turn on the OSD on your DELL, adjust the OSD position to somewhere off-center. In my case, I choose the bottom right corner.
5. Lower the Color Settings value to 0, 0, 0 and try to achieve 6500K using the lowest possible value.

6. Using this, I managed to set my screen to abt 112.6 cd/m^2 at a brightness level of 3

7. When EyeOne match is done with its calibration process, voila a proper calibrated screen.

The key technique here is to lower the R G B value to the lowest, and increase them slowly to archieve your desired color temperature.
