相信更多人期望 Apple 出 PDA！

不幸的是 PDA 這種東西目前已經走到盡頭，我以為蘋果還是遠離這類災難產品為妙。

但Newton仍然有好多支持者。

I would disagree,
I mean Pocket PCs are
limited for Win People only,
and Palms just don't have enough
horse power to do anything multimedia.
An Apple branded PDA would definatly attracts
most of Mac heads who wants a real PDA.
It can not be Newton though, it has to be more intergrated with OS X, and drop the Newton name, so Steve would even consider it.
I am very sure that iPDA would definatly be
more popular then ipod.

So how much do you think Apple will charge people for an iPDA? $99, $399, or $799 ??

Look at the PDA market right now and you should see that people only care about price, an Apple designed PDA could not and will not be cheap. This means very few people will be able to afford an expensive toy like iPDA.

take a look at ipod,
the lcd resolution is 160x128
it's almost the resolution of Palms.
the Hard drive is big enough for OS X full
version, It's even got 32 mb of ram.
Don't tell me that ipod can't be made of a PDA with just a some mod.
Hell, as I see it, put in a better screen,
load OS X lite with it and maybe a cheap G3 266 or something, and you get iPod + iPDA at
$599.
Although I am not an expert, but I don't think this is too far fetch.
by the way, $399 for ipod is far too expensive, $299 is more like it, so my iPod PDA thing could be selling for $499.

Just a thought

One more thing.
People don't spend 400 bucks for mp3 players neither. which didn't stop Steve from introducing iPod. the Market for MP3 Players are far worse then PDAs. And Steve still insist on selling a MP3 player to a niche of a niche market,(ipod is Mac only)
Anyway, my point would be iPDA is a better idea then iPod.


P.S. Maybe apple should market iPod as a portable Hard Drive that plays MP3, other then a MP3 player that doubles as a HD.
I think if they put the highlight on the HD part of the iPod would make the price feels more reasonable.

Well, I have great confidentce in Apple people. I think that they could maybe not moding the ipod but build an iPDA at around the price point that I stated.
I still believe that iPod come out instead of iPDA because of politics rather the Tech or Marketing reason.

Well, your thoughts are very close to what lots of Mac fans are thinking out there, but I have to say this: Folks at Apple are also human, they can't do the impossible. They just have a (much) better taste.

As far as I can tell, it is not that easy to just slap in a bigger LCD, and load Mac OS X Lite (where did you get the idea of Mac OS X Lite, anyway?) will give you an Apple PDA.

According to your theory, Palm, Inc. must have hired a bunch of crack smokers so that it took them several years to design Palm V. [img]images/smiles/icon_razz.gif[/img]

Also according to your formula, $599 gives you a Palm III sized machine while there is not even a expansion slot, I don't know about you, but to me it is a joke.

The reason Apple didn't call their MP3 player "i**** Player" show that they knew the Hard Disk part of iPod can also be a big selling point, but Steve didn't emphasis on this because he doesn't want to divert people's attention.

Last, I didn't say that iPod is cheap, but you get what you are paying for. Go take a look at the actual product, you will see why Apple charges a premium for it.

那就用 Newton 就好啦。

從以前 Newton 學得的教訓可知，「好多」並不表示可以有足夠的營業額讓蘋果賺錢，由於蘋果是家上市公司，必須向投資者負責，所以不推出 PDA 應該是正確的做法。

如果用戶想買一部外置硬碟，現在附加了 MP3 功能和漂亮的外表，US$399是可以接受的。
但如果用戶想買一部 MP3 player，現在市場上巳有很多的選擇。iPod 的情況 … 好像不太樂觀。

G3 or powerpc chip in iPod? it's freaking out of everyone's mind. with iPod's alminium shell... it'd be hot enough to boil an egg... go iEggcooker!
