do I need DVD-R? combo Drive vs SuperDrive

新的iMac中階型有Combo Drive，高階型有Super Drive。
SuperDrive的好處：
1) 自己做DVD (剪輯攝錄機所拍的家庭影片)(很累人吧？)(但是Combo Drive 也可以做VCD吧？)
2) 大容量的備份媒體。CD-R/CD-RW 要好幾十片才能容納動輒數十GB的hard drive 資料。DVD-R可以省事許多。
除了以上兩點，還有什麼優點/理由可以說服我多花銀兩買高階型的iMac?

高階型為 800MHz G4, 其他都是 700MHz.

就Mac來說, 製作DVD比VCD容易多了.
而且做VCD還不能在OS X看.
如果預算夠, 還是買SuperDrive機種吧!

如何做VCD
我的意思是：預算不夠，買不起SuperDrive；又想將家庭錄影帶轉換成數位光碟

Ever heard of SVCD? Or MiniDVD? They are probably not expensive enough to your taste but are very good for home video and won't require us the not-so-rich people to rob a bank or something.
Too bad Mac is complete incompatible with both of those.

是界於VCD與DVD之間的影像品質(容量亦然)，由於製作成本比VCD貴卻又比不上DVD的畫質.......所以幾乎尚未流行就被淘汰了.......

Costs more than VCD? How? It use the same VCD disc spec. You can burn it with the same software and drive that you burn VCD. How is that costing more???
Of course, you can do that only on PC, which is CHEAPER than a Mac...

SVCD 什麼時候被淘汰了，很多大廠的出的 DVD Player 都可相容於 SVCD。所謂 SVCD 基本上就是將 MPEG 2 格式影片放進 CD 片中，由於 MPEG 2 格式檔案較大， CD 片容量小，所以只能容下影片的時間很短，不過若是成本考量，又注重品質，倒是可以試試這種方式，但若等到 DVD-R 和 DVD 空白片的成本降到和 CD 差不多，那 SVCD 就真的會被淘汰了。
