Subject: [ANN] XFree86 4.2.0
The latest full release from the XFree86 Project, XFree86 4.2.0, is now available. A quick summary of the new Darwin/Mac OS X specific features in 4.2.0 is:
o On Mac OS X, a new rootless mode was added to the XDarwin X server.
This allows X clients to display windows on the Aqua desktop.
o Xinerama support added to XDarwin
o With XDarwin in full screen mode, the depth, size, and refresh
rate can now be chosen to be different from the settings used by
Aqua.
o GLX support added for Darwin and Mac OS X with software rendering.
o Keymap setup in XDarwin is improved, particularly for interna-
tional keyboards.
o In addition to English and Japanese, the XDarwin user interface is
now localized in Dutch, French, German, Spanish, and Korean.
Pre-compiled binaries for the following Darwin/Mac OS X platforms are, or will soon be, available at the XFree86 FTP site:
Darwin-ppc-1.x PowerPC version for Mac OS X 10.0 and Darwin 1.0-1.3
Darwin-ppc-5.x PowerPC version for Mac OS X 10.1 and Darwin 1.4.1
Darwin-ix86-5.x Intel x86 version for Darwin 1.4.1
By popular demand, the XonX Project (http://sf.net/projects/xonx) has also produced double-clickable installers for Mac OS X. The installers are available from:

There are separate installers for Mac OS X 10.0 and 10.1. The installer for Mac OS X 10.1 is available now and the Mac OS X 10.0 installer will be available shortly.
