From the impressions I've got in the website, the main problem of Bob was that the living/reading/everything room metaphor is gaudy. Imitating everything in real life doesn't necessary make the computer easier to use. Glad to see a webpage collecting so many screen shots of early OSs. The development of GUI has been so fast that we sometimes fail to appreciate how advanced those early GUIs once were.
