I'm just so confused about 10.1 and CLK
Okay... All these postings make me so confused.
Let me try to recap...
10.1 US does have the Chinese component, but not visible to users. 10.1 TC will be offered as a free download (or did I read that article wrong?).
So, right now, besides the beta from a New York company or some hack which requires an earlier version of OS X TC, there is not other way to make my 10.1 US to write in Chinese.
Is that right???
Thank you!

Don't worry. You are no more confused than Apple itself.
10.1 Do not have all the resource/code needed for a useful Chinese OS. It displays Chinese and that's it.
There will be a Tier 2 version of 10.1, just like the so-called 10.0TC, which actually has more than Chinese in it.
And sources said there will be a downloadable Tier 2 add-on package for us the unlucky early adaptors who bought Steve Job's "world-ready OS" BS.

I think I'm getting it... Anyway, it's not like I haven't waited for so long already! ha ha ha!
I'm just glad that we're not going backwards to the time when it's either English or whatever else... Or to the time when you had to play for language kits... That's just ridiculous.
Just hope that Apple won't go crazy and make us true Mac lovers (who adopt early to 10.x) to regret that we jump the wagon too early! ha ha!
Jobs! LEMME HAVE MY TC Language Kit!!! THANK YOU!

You can INPUT Chinese under 10.1 right now by using this 3rd party Input Method (which I personally believe is better than Apple's traditional Chinese input method from OS 9)

Really? Can you tell us in which ways it's better than Apple's TCIM?
And, BTW, Apple owes OS X users a TCIM. I don't think we should pay for a 3rd party software to do what the OS's supposed to do out of the box.
But if you regard PanALEX as better ALTERNATIVE to TCIM, that's a different story.

You guys may NOT believe this, but I am using MacOS 9.2.1 w/ Chinese input method as the alternative.
Sure it's "only" in Classic, not Carbon or even native OS X environment. But it's a viable and definitely a useful alternative.

Actually, that's what I did at the beginning too...
But then, I didn't even bother installing 9.2.1 because I didn't really need anymore...
So now I'm just waiting for Apple not to disappoint me too much.

The Real Unknown:
PanALEX is better than OS 9's Chinese input method in the following areas.
1.) "Smart Pinyin" - Under OS 9, you must type each character seperately, which takes a long time. Under PanALEX, you can type phrases. Not only is it faster, it's also extremely convinent when one doesn't know all the characters or is learning the Chinese language.
2.) More Input Methods - Under OS 9, the input methods included are limited to only Zhuyin, Pinyin, Changjie and maybe 2, 3 others. PanALEX includes almost every Chinese input method ever created.
3.) Most importantly, PanALEX is available to OS X users who can't obtain the Tier 2 version and Apple's Chinese IME isn't.

The Real Unknown:
I don't know who you're refering to when you say "many of US" because I can gurantee you that Pinyin is the most popular input method. Think about it, anyone who learned Chinese in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, or even in the United States learned Pinyin. That's a whole lot of people if you ask me. So I do believe that it is important to have a better Pinyin input method.
Nobody really uses more than one Input Method at a time. However, the more input methods there are available, the grander an audience PanALEX would have.
You're absolutely right. PanALEX isn't a shipping product because it's currently a beta program. However, I believe even a BETA program is better than a NON-EXISTANT program, right? Any of us who can't obtain the Tier 2 OS X can just go and download PanALEX as we speak but we must wait for Apple to decide when they'll release their Chinese IME for the rest of us.

This is a TRADITIONAL CHINESE baord, right? Most people HERE use TRADITIONAL CHINESE and use ChangJie and ZhuYin to type.
Like I said, PinYin in PanALEX may be better. But it's ZhuYin and ChangJie SUCK. PERIOD. And it's understandable for the author (and maybe you too) is from China and knows nothing about how these two methods are used by real people.
I never said TCIM is any good. I even think the whole OS X saga is a disaster. But it's rediculous to pay for some IME that's supposed to come with the OS. I am BLAMING Apple for that. Not you nor PanALEX.

Yes, this IS a TRADITIONAL CHINESE board. But what makes you so sure that there's not a great number of people who prefer to use Pinyin to type Chinese because Changjie is takes too long to learn and Zhuyin requires either a Chinese keyboard, Zhuyin stickers, or a "Virtual Keyboard". It's sad to see that you're so closed minded and think that Zhuyin and Changjie are the only ways to input Traditional Chinese.
First of all, Zhuyin and Changjie under PanALEX don't "suck". At least they're just as good as Apple's methods. Difficulty with typing Chinese via Zhuyin and Changjie isn't PanALEX or Apple's fault, it's in these input method's nature. I admit, for those who are familiar with Changjie, it's an extremely fast input method but it has a real steep learning curve. FYI, I am actually from Taiwan and not China, therefore I was brought up learning Zhuyin rather than Pinyin. Again, being close-minded has caused you to create a false assumption. And what exactly do you mean by "these two methods used by the 'REAL' people"? So those who don't use Zhuyin/Changjie to input Chinese aren't "REAL people"?
PanALEX is currently beta software and it's COMPLETELY FREE. It took me 3 whole minutes to go to their website, download, install, and start typing Chinese. Of course, I personally would prefer to use a TCIM made by the same people who made my OS, however, that's just not possible for many of us who can't get Tier 2 OS X right now. That's also why I've been stressing that even a beta TCIM is better than a non-existant one.

Whew. You are really dense, aren't you?
It's the implementation of the 2 IMs sucks in PanALEX, not the IMs themselves. IMs are the same across IMEs.
You obviously never actually used ChangJie and ZhiYin in either PanALEX or TCIM. So I really don't know how to enlight you on the difference.
Then again, you are fully entitled to believe in the superiority of PanALEX and keep dreaming the dominance of PinYin. But just get your facts strait next time.
Ever wondering why people are begging for Lalasan on X? They all want a good PinYin, I guess.
