mysql + php

How does mysql and php handle Hong Kong Special character set?

mysql only store the "深水埗" as "深水& # 2 2 4 8 7 ; and when i select it from terminal or out put it using phpmyadmin

does PHP parsing or mysql config has any solution to have it to properly display?

p.s. I want to stick with big5hkscs instead of unicode
