the 2nd plant... I think it's also called the cat tail right? I see them in Singapore as well, but another species, Typha latifolia. Remember them well, because one can usually find some species of dragonflies there.

Yes, but the Cat-Tail (Grass) actually is Timothy Grass (Phleum pratense L.), a main fodder in North America.
The plant in the picture above is Typha angustifolia L. its name is NARROW LEAF CATTAIL.
They are both wetland plants, similar but different.
