AirPort firmware flash?!

Trying to help a pal upgrading 10 of his old AirPort cards (circa 1999), it's seem that AirPort 2.0.2 or the later software have NO EFFECT on these cards.

They still remain 40-bits and with only 4 available channels (10-13, due to an old Singapore regulatory rule).

My pal called Apple, someone they said his card is too old and can't be flashed? Is there such thing?

I read here that even the Lucent 40-bit Orinocco Silver card can be flashed to 128-bit gold card using AirPort 2.0.2 or later software, why can't one flash Apple's own cards???

Can someone help?

P.S. I'm pretty sure I successfully flashed a 4-channel 40-bits card to 13 ch. and 128-bit when 2.0.2 come out a few months ago.

2.0.2 的說明裡面是這樣寫著：

但我記得 2.0 剛出的幾天，蘋果還特別另外弄了一個軔體更新的套件給 AirPort Card 升級，但過沒多久這個軔體更新就不見了。

我剛拿我之前在 AirPort 2.0.2 上用過的 WaveLan Sliver rev.D 去 PC 上試著更新

我用的是 Firmware Update for ORiNOCO PC Cards v8.10 - Winter 2002 release.

結果, 它說我的軔體是 WEP128, Station Functions firmware Variant1, Version 8.12 比它的還新, 問我說要不要 downgrade to 8.10....

看來 AirPort 2.0.2 在不知不覺中已經更新了卡片...

Digdog,

Have you tried flashing the Orinocco Silver card in the graphite ABS into a Gold card, using something like this?

灰飛碟裡的銀卡我沒試過，因為手邊沒這玩意。我這裡只有兩張 Orinocco 的親生父母卡 WaveLAN Sliver rev. A 跟 rev.D

但它們現在都變金卡了 [img]images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]

至於你提到的那個網頁，就像上面說的，我有試過，但我找到的認體更新是 8.10 版，比我現在手上這兩張被 AirPort 更新過的都還要舊...
